By Nitin Panwar, former AVP of GenAI at Naukri.com ยท Updated 3 November 2026
Your Naukri profile summary should say, in 3โ5 sentences, what you do, for what kind of company, one or two results with numbers, your core skills, and the role you want next. Recruiters skim it after your headline matched their search, so it has to confirm the match fast.
Template
- I am a [title] with [N] years in [domain].
- I [what you own or build], for [type of company or customer].
- Recently: [result with a number].
- Core skills: [4โ6 skills from your target jobs].
- Looking for: [target role], [location or remote].
Example
"Backend engineer with 7 years in fintech. I build payment and settlement APIs in Java and Spring Boot for high-volume products. Recently cut settlement time from 2 days to 2 hours for a payments platform. Core skills: Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, AWS, PostgreSQL, system design. Looking for Senior Backend or Tech Lead roles in Bengaluru or remote."
What to leave out
- Generic adjectives ("hard-working, passionate")
- Your full job history (that's what Employment is for)
- Skills you don't want to be hired for
Questions people ask
- Is the profile summary searchable?
- Recruiter searches look across your profile and resume, so using the words from your target jobs in the summary helps, as long as it reads naturally.
- Should the summary be the same as my CV summary?
- Close to it. The same title, skills and story across profile and CV avoids looking inconsistent.
